Siguiriyas "a Claqueta"

anyone notice with most of the versions of siguiriyas accompanied in the last few years on albums, are pretty much all a claqueta (with percussion in the background)

One of the appeals of siguiriyas, for me, is the voice and the guitar just by itself.

examples. Tomate with Jose Merce, Montse Cortes, and on soy flamenco with camarons voice. also with Diego del Morao and a few of the jerez singers.

Anyone else notice this trend?

It began with the reintroduction of antiguo style of double tempo accompaniment...see here at 5:00.

I think it was Diego del Morao w potito first time I noticed it making a come back: 17:50

thanks Ricardo, i find it interesting how trends in the music begin or become "popular interpretations" so to speak.

Most of the time, i've seen this double interpretation is when the dance is involved.

Antonio Reyes blew me away with his siguiriya in Nimes last year - highlight of the show for me. I think the siguiriyas on his disk with Diego del Morao is without a percussion track.

I guess the whole dance school thing is driving the trend.

No, dance is the exact opposite tempo wise they want slow motion everything. It was the retro cante influence I explained as the typical thing (Antonio Reyes examples) had become stale.

i'd have to say some of the falsetas or accompaniment for seguiriyas, was pretty neglected for a while, alot of cd's seem to be a few buleria, a rumba, a few tangos and a mix bag.

people have said to me that siguiriyas really separates the artist, from the artists artist, men from the boys so to speak (no sexism intended) as its a pretty heavy full on cante that requires alot for an impressive delivery.

La Macanita and DDM in 2001 in her album la Luna de Tomasa.

Very similar accompaniment by DDM for Nino de la fragua in 2018.
