Steve Kahn

Hi!
If you haven't discovered the recordings (and photos) of Steve Kahn, check out
http://www.stevekahn.com/guitarist/index.html

It's the old Moron style - sounds very much like Diego or Dieguito. Not the virtuoso technique of the young hotshots, but solid, moving flamenco. The CD is definitely worth having.
Cheers,
Norman

I had reason to contact Steve a while ago and learnt bit by bit of how deeply he was connected to flamenco. He was very helpful. Has he now moved to California from Brooklyn? His photography project was just coming out - it's amazing.

Here he is :

Depending on how you interpret 'disappearance' this could be significant:

Is this the same Steve who collaborated with Larry Coryell?

No - you mean Steve Khan of Chord Khancepts and Pentatonic Khancepts. He's still quite alive.

In fact he's the son of Sammy Cahn and for some reason changed his name.

....and here's the URL for the book, The Flamenco Project. I haven't read much of the text, but the photos are magnificent: a poignant reminder of days long gone by, when the culture of oppression and poverty that gave rise to the cante was still daily life in the villages of Andalucia.

He changed his name because he did no want to ride dads coat tails, and Khan is a more 'black' sounding jazz name.

I've been friends with his sister for 25 years, she's a gung fu master. And a great person to go to jazz shows with.
