Francisco Cimadevilla

Anyone know anything about this Spanish guitarist/composer?

This is pretty much all I could find about him online:
Francisco Cimadevilla (Valladolid 1861-Madrid 1931) guitarrista, compositor, y sobre todo maestro de guitarra, fue autor de dos métodos para nuestro instrumento, otro para bandurria y laúd, así como varias colecciones de música de carácter folclórico. A su método La fácil progresión Método de guitarra dividido en dos partes y cuidadosamente digitado pertenecen estas tres piezas Mazurka, Polka, y Schotisch.

About 10 years ago I picked up some of his sheet music at a small music store in Ithaca, NY. I'm not sure when he wrote them but they are nice simple little pieces. The music I have was published in 1956.

Here's a video of me imperfectly interpreting his Guajira

Lovely! Kind of a funny story, I had also purchased some music by him at a local guitar event years back. It was used and I got it for super cheap so I just thumbed through it quickly and put it in my pile. Well, I found it last night...then a search on him this morning brought me to your post :)

My music is a different collection, it has these same 5 pieces from yours and additional palos like alegrias, bulerias, soleares, malaguena...etc.

I don't know any more about him than what you posted but his years would have overlapped with R. Montoya's so that's interesting.

Thanks for posting this!

Tate, thanks for the response! I would love to see the other pieces.
It's funny that this music seems to have been distributed more widely than anything else flamenco related from that time.
The pieces are simple but there's something charming about them. They do remind me of Ramon Montoya's music a little, and part of me likes how simple and "innocent" flamenco guitar was in the pre-Paco era

Yea, everything in that book of mine is pretty simple but really well composed!

I've been playing through the soleares, I'll see if I can get a decent recording of it.

I also realized that the guajiras in my book are different than the one you posted here. This dude wrote a lot of music lol!
