D String intonation

I bought a second hand Alhambra 9p and checked all fret notes with a chromatic tuner and noticed that in the D string, unlike the other strings, the notes become progressively out of tune and i find in the octave 12 fret almost 1/4 step down of the correct pitch.

What could be the defect? Is only in D string , others are acceptable, could this be fixed with a basic setup? Or is something more serious... In higher frets i really can hear it out of tune.

If the A-string and G-string are accurate, chances are it’s the D-string that’s the problem.

Change it and see what happens.

Assuming the saddle is not compensated it could just be a bad string. That would be my first trial. If not some measuring would need to be done. A note going flat as you go up is not a easy fix other wise.

Too be totally honest...over the years I have come to the understanding this is a problem with the D string itself on ALL guitars actually. Especially compensated guitars, but relatively speaking on all of em. The reason is because of it's material and size...IMO. Oddly everyone complains about the G string because of it's thickness...but if I put on the capo I always pre adjust the D string a hair sharp to avoid retuning later. Always works out.
