Stage monitors - anyone tried the st... 
Hey folks - has anyone performed using the new monitor set up that seems to have become the norm? (studio monitor on stand near head)

Or had conversations w/ sound guys about the concept. Is it all about volume? EQ?
Or just getting a little speaker up in your ear? What about feedback; I often see them pointed perilously towards the mic, but there's no feedback. Is that due to the low volume? The field of the mic?

Has anyone done a gig where you've been able to request them? I gig from time to time at some of the better venues in the SF Bay area, and I think if I requested that set up the sound guys would look at me crazy. Is it just a European thing?

Is it "BYOM" (bring your own monitor) here in the US?

Obviously I have a lot of questions! I'd love to get this conversation going.

For the last few years the favourite here has been the little Genelec nearfield studio monitor.

Was wondering what they were
Great specs on those speakers .,,
My deleted post was describing a Similiar set up I've been using for a few months
Small speaker on a stand to my left for monitoring
However it's a small Powered auro speaker - more like a PA type speaker, less of a studio monitor
Conceptually the same idea I guess
Works extremely well so far

Maybe you could use two facing eachother, you in the middle, flip the phase on one of them. The microphone (at the center) shouldn't pick up much.

Hi Turnermoran,

I have a couple of Genelec 8030s in my studio and I used them for some restaurant gigs.

I guess people like them because at lower volumes they sound great, flat and natural. I ended up
getting a single QSC-K10 for more sound and projection and to keep the amount of kit (mixers cables down)/



Its a good speaker but I don't think it sounds as good as the genelec's but it is louder and projects more.
