My journey into the blues #9 Gary Mo...

Trying my hand at jamming to a Gary Moore style backing track. One thing I am realising is that I am not allowing notes to sustain as they can with an electric. Probably all those years with nylon. Quite pleased with my vibrato though.

Anyway, I am not sure where this is all coming from as I am kind of playing without thinking about the next note anymore.

One take, see what comes out. My modded Goldtop is really starting to sing and I like it a lot.

Feedback is most welcome, as always. It's tough to work on your own.

its time to start playing , across the bar lines ...you have it as each little 12 bar round is a individual piece and ends at the end and so begins again ... so now its time to look at ,,as the end of the round comes up to keep an idea going that will tie it into the beginning of the next round and so on ....if you get me ...
so round about bar 10 , 11 , start to tie that to bar 1 , or 2 depending ..once you get used to this you will find your little solos can be much bigger and more dynamic ..
rhythmic patterns will help you with this ...

It has some reverb and chorus but it's low volume (as always) but I can turn it up a bit

Nice sound and some nice licks there.
You start off very well, but I think you loose the thread a bit and it becomes more noodly and with less story.

I think it would be good for you to work some on chord playing and shorter and tighter solos where you concentrate on one or two ideas. Something like a chorus of chords and 2 chorus of solo, a chorus of chords etc.

Yes, I know and I´ve been there many times. Thats one reason why I suggested to play shorter solos and play a chorus of chords in between. Playing shorter solos, help getting good ideas because you dont run out of them.
the other reason is that there are millions of rock and blues guitarists out there capable of playing solos for hours, but who are lousy when it comes to backing up and just play along in the back. The guitar is a very good instrument for doing that and good backing is often more interesting than solos. There are so many different ways from simple Robert Johnson style to very complex jazz-blues with a lot of passing chords.

When you say you want to learn the original song, does it mean copying Moore´s solos or what. Thats not a bad idea, but its long if I remember right. Gee, that song was played everywhere all the time some decades ago. When was it, late 80th.?

I just meant the classic intro/theme and mess around with the chords. Not a 20 minute opus

I spent many years playing bass so know all about banging away in the background but I never tried rhythm guitar for any length of time. Playing along to backing tracks is a little sterile for that, but I will try. Passing chords interest me.

well, maybe one day you´ll be ready for a 20 minut opus....
To me, rock and blues guitar with to much soloing is like flamenco with to much falsetaing. It just ends up being notes. Just like I dont get these long Coltrane solos where it to me sounds like was trying to unbend the sax by blowing air into it instead of playing music on it. (hard work unbending a metal tube that way)
I really like a good solo. All instruments, all styles, but it needs to have something around, so that it kind of pops out.

I agree with Anders...I too played rock guitar...When I would write an original I used to write verse, chorus, verse...Used a lot of melody with some of the blues style licks...TRIADS and CHORD TONES RULE!

But even as a guitarist, I CAN'T stand long solo playing...So when writing a song I would write it no longer than 2.50 or 3 minute so that I would not make the average listener bored...

Now a days besides flamenco guitar, I DIG jazz/chord melody style...
