Vadim Chebanov - Classical Guitarist

Check this Russian guitarist out. In early 90-s I attended one of his concerts in Russia, and was blown away by the effortless virtuosic playing. After watching this old video I can see why. It's all good, but the Mussorgsky bit that starts around 9 minutes in takes the cake because I know just how impossible it is to play. The best rendition I've heard of it.

EDIT: After watching it again I think it is all great. He makes the faster tempos feel effortless and natural.

I saw him on dutch television 2,5 year ago (playing the troika variations) and became an instant fan after his epic performance :-).

At the end of your post he plays 1 of the Piazzolla pieces i posted today :-)

Yes, I noticed. It is difficult not to be impressed by such a tremendous technique that is always at the service of music.

I agree, technique has to serve the music. Always.

Awesome. You should post that on the Delcamp classical guitar forum too.

Hey Grish that was pretty awesome.

But I meant to ask a question first time round. After listening the Rodrigo Zapataedo I really wanted to hear how he approaches the Passacaglia (don't care if I never hear the Fandango again).

Do you know if he has recorded it ?

I want to hear him play Passacaglia myself. Unfortunately, I am not aware of any albums he produced.

Shame. Thanks for info.

I think I would like to hear you play it even more though.

Grisha, is this the same Vadim Chebanov? If so, how sad a choice of repertory for such a virtuoso -a choice, I am sure not he, but audiences dictate.

gj, this is the same Vadim Chebanov. It is a shame what such accomplished players have to do to survive in today's indifferent and unforgiving world.

.... Indeed.

On that note, when will you find your way to SF or NY for a concert?

Played in NYC about 2 or 3 years ago and in SF last year (as part of the Omni series) and again this year, end of April. No plans for future concerts at this time...

Oh no, you were in SF this past April and I missed your concert, and opportunity to meet you ?!

Well, I'd better get my name on your mailing list, Grisha... I hope you'll return soon.
