krazy glue brush issues..

props to the foro: I'm living the krazy glue life and loving it.
Thanks Ricardo and others for the suggestion.

And on a related note, some while back I posted asking if anyone tried combining it w/ baking soda.
I tried the baking soda, as well as powdered acrylic. I actually find the baking soda to work better. I think I'm probably not using enough acrylic though.. it's hard to get the acrylic uniform.
As for baking soda, I'll take some out of the box and put it on some paper. I brush some krazy glue on the nail, then press the wet-glue nail into the baking soda. After a few seconds, I'll take my finger and press the mix down, evening out any irregularities.
once it dries, more krazy glue, some filing and smoothing, and the thing is indestructible. After a week or so, it will chip and come off in large-ish chunks, leaving the natural nail underneath exposed, but undamaged. Then I reapply as needed.

But there's one problem, which I don't know if it's baking soda related, and the reason for the post:

well before the glue is done, it begins to "gum up" in the bottle.. gets thicker..a little ball forms at the end of the brush. The brush becomes a problem to use, and the glue gets too thick.

Though I wait till the baking soda-krazy glue mix is dry before applying more, it strikes me that maybe I'm introducing baking soda into the bottle and thus my problem.
OR.. this is a common problem w/ Krazy Glue brush.
Anyone else have this gummy glue problem?

I use the brush on glue from this outfit and I have had no problems with gumming up. But then i don't dip the brush in baking soda. I brush the glue coating (on the tip of the nail) and spray it with their quick dry spray and repeat to 4 coats of glue. Seems to work well enough. Splits can be easily glued with the brush. I've tried all the coatings from the ladies suppliers without result.

Baking soda is an accelerator for curing CA glue.

hmm..
I'll bear in mind the BS/CA Accel situation..

though me thinks my problem of krazy glue becoming thick towards the end is probably not related to BS (the baking stuff.. the **** in my mind is endless)

You have to store the glue always after you open it the first time. Treat it like food, it goes bad in open air. Seal the cap tight, then put it in a plastic zip lock bag. It will last a longer time but as soon as it gets gooy instead of runny, it's no good and you need to trash it and buy a new one.

If you already doing this, it could be you are infact getting the baking soda in there or something. Perhaps you should wait longer after the baking soda goes on, file first after dry, THEN apply the top coat of glue. But most likely the issue is because you are letting the glue dry out in the air.

I bet it's the baking soda on the brush. But you would want to keep it from the air too like Riconde' says.

Try washing the the brush in acetone while it is still wet. CA glues are also formulated to have different drying times and there are accelerators. I don't recommend using them on your body as they are said to be carcinogenic in the MSDS sheets.

You can go to to the Locktite CA glue website a see several kinds of CA glue, you can find a runny one that has more 'open time' and brush it over, it might not go off while you are using it.

Or get two brushes and put some on with one brush while the over gets cleaned in acetone and then switch always keeping a clean brush in your original CA container.

Or get a big bottle of runny glue and dispense enough to do your job into a separate disposable container and keep your brush out of the storage container.

Or change to using a disposable pipette for application to instead of a brush

Just some ideas

Only thing I thought about was that the stuff would simply harden the brush stiff. THe gooey thing is always the case when the glue gets old and dries out.
