a question about guitars that has 4 ...

okay, i question this thing like a long time ago go but it grew even worse now
so i came accross youtube watching flamenco videos to see these guys playing with a guitar that apparently (well it looks like) has a bass string on the 3rd string, which usually i would expect the treble one though

did anyone sell some kind of special edition string packs that has 4 bass strings and 2 trebles or did they simply apply another E bass string to the 3rd string?

Light fall and reflection in the nylon makes it seem that way.

I particularly like that song that Diego is playing and the way he gets up to leaves stage before the song is done, he's like "I'm outta here,... see ya!"
boy it does look like that third is similar to the other wound strings.

a very scary thought, not to be tried at home.

i think Saverez have a wound G somewhere in their classical sets but not sure how long they have been around for or if they still are

i had seen a guitarist perform some 25 years ago and noticed what seemed to be a wound G.
i'm still thinking some lighting distortion from the old footage.....which was great by the way,
enjoyed watching.

Not only does Savarez make a wound third string, but they even make an entire wound treble set - all three. They sound great, and there's no "transition" when you are crossing strings from bass to treble and vice versa. Also rasgueado is smooth as can be, because they all have the same texture.

The problem is that it's bad enough when playing picado on bass strings it wears the hell out of your nails, now it kills them playing picado on treble, which you do much more often.

The ones I played were not wound like a bass string, but they were just plastic but bumpy as if they were wound. I guess they sound similar in brightness? but they are not metal wrapped, just bumpy plastic. Never liked em or understood the point as I love the transition of tone from D string to G, it's a cool character of the nylon string guitar that adds to it's charm. Why try to avoid that? For a stupid uniform scale run???

Savarez used to, probably still does, make two different wound third strings. One was/is nylon, wound with nylon. The other was/is made liked the bass strings, a bundle of thin nylon strands, wound with metal. Both were/are brighter than the normal solid nylon third string. The nylon one could be a little scratchy, the metal one wore out faster than even the D string, but they were bright. I used the wound nylon third for a couple of years until I got my first good guitar, then I switched to the normal Savarez "red cards".

So, I looked them up. Savarez makes all three treble strings of wound nylon, and two different metal wound third strings:

nice, thanks for the insights guys :D

i dont really think like trying to buy that string set tho, but it looks simply unique and brought me to wonder whether there's anything really behind it because i rarely saw them these days (i think)
