Hi all, I found this nice forum by accident while Googling for "peteneras". A happy accident.

I'm recently retired, so now I've regrown my nails and I'm taking up the guitar again despite a touch of arthritis. My major enthusiasms (besides golf and Mediterranean/Moro cooking, of course) include the slow and thoughtful palos like tientos and siguiriyas, De Falla, Villa-Lobos, the work of Paco de Lucia and Carlos Sara's movies.

I'll sort out a signature when I can find a smiley with white hair.....

Welcome to the foro and greetings from Holland. In my younger years i used to play the Peteneras of Paco Peña. The only trace of that piece on youtube is this recording played by Atrafano. He did a pretty good job in ear playing the correct notes (there's only a hand full of mistakes). For Paco the piece begins at 0:55, the part before he considers to be a free introduction.

We all played it at Rotterdam Conservatory and i must admit that in the beginning some disturbing things did indeed happen. From the first 3 people doing final exam in 1990 one lost a parent 6 mound before his exam. In 1993 i was number 4 doing final exam and lost my mother 3 mounds before d-day (i actually played above Peteneras at my exam). 1 or 2 years later number 5 did final exam and he lost his father on the intended day of the exam. So from the first 5 exam candidates 3 lost a parent in the year of their exam. No similar cases did occur during later exams (as far as i know).

Unlike wiki claims it is not counted in 12 but 1 of only 2 flamenco styles actually counted in 6/8-3/4 (the other one is guajiras).
