Good find! I do almost the same exercises with a soy bean bucket, it comes from traditional kung fu training. Very good for wrist and forearm strength! Theres a lot of useful stuff (not only) for guitarists from the rich tradition of kung fu and chinese medicine.

Yes, a great application of Shaolin training, but I'm not sure how the polished fingernails will fare with this, anyone has tried already?

Perhaps you could use a thin glove to protect the fingernails.

If fingernails are going to get damaged by rice one has to have pretty weak fingernails.

Really nice excercise, thanks for sharing.

well we eat pure basmati rice from tilda with long grains and its expensive.
so i wont do that with our rice sack.
(iranians will know what i am talking about).

I wouldn't do this with basmati rice - it's a bit expensive. I think the cheapest rice will do.
