Running round in circles.

Maybe its because I am not, and don't really aspire to be, Flamenco Puro but I really get that feeling that I am running to stand still.

My technique and musicianship are, I think/hope, getting stronger as the years pass but I seem to spend just enough time in any one style to get the gist of it and then I am off to another part of the musical world on a new adventure.

I haven't been playing a lot of flamenco since I fell out with a local dancer. Worse I havent been listening to enough either and have quite lost track of the younger players.

Sure I can learn a new piece more easier than I could when I was younger but nothing really seems to become part of my permanent repetoire.

Maybe I am just a glutton for music, I love it all.

I have my classical stuff to fall back on (and whenever I get a gig I generally do) and I know that it is not wise to say so here but I do still love it.

But I just cant seem to put a program of new material together and haven't even considered entering any of the challenges .

Then I'll spend a week on bluegrass ( fingerstyle of course because I am a masochist ) or try and play 'All The Things You Are' in twelve keys. And the very little I have composed never gets finished or it is so hard it seems like too much work to practice it.

As for gypsy jazz (which I have spent a few years now trying to understand) well that is just a s,,t load of work. And although it is fun in a jam trying to pull it out convincingly...... well it's not coming together as quickly as I'd like it to.

But for all the dissapointment I have in my own talent memory I really can't complain about the music.

Music.

God where would I be without it.

D.

I get what you're saying. Hard to make real progress unless you focus on just one thing.

To me its just either the pick or fingers. It of course depends on what you want to achieve with the style you are playing... I think the main point is to enjoy.

I have exactly the same issues :-)

I did however considered to enter the upcoming soleares contest (for no other reason then the fact that as as a kind of miracle i created enough bits and pieces of soleares over the years to be able to construct an interesting self composed soleares) but i rejected the idea of entering because i don't want to participate in judging the contributions and on top want to share that material under my own conditions (which involves either a free introduction or a modulation coming from granainas).

There is no rules its about sharing. YOu can feel free to judge others and be judged even if being hypocritical. It's all in good fun and learning. WHat ever you do though I will share with GErardo Nuñez this summer and ask what he thinks of it! (just kidding.)

About this topic, I jump around too with listening more than playing just to keep inspired. I been listening to Bach a lot lately but that won't last.
