Yeah, it was amazing- my favourite of the London festival shows. He was still pretty limited by his finger injury- no picado and his rasgueos were done with 2nd and 3rd fingers but on the plus side he played some of the most insane thumb-only solos you will ever see!

He is certainly not 'worse' as a guitarist, just limited in the repetoire he can actually play.

If I remember rightly he played a rondena followed by bulerias, alegrias de cadiz, sevillanas, then the singers did martinete and unaccompanied solea por bulerias, then a very loud and heavy solea, then a bulerias un-amplified to finish. Carmen Cortes danced very well and there was a great sense of unity and togetherness about the group.

Hasn't he just finished recording a new album? And without picado? Don't get me wrong; I'm sure it'll be great. I just can't imagine recording an album of flamenco guitar without being able to make extensive use of my index finger.

Apart from that, though, even if Gerardo's not able to use his index, he's still got great picado with the other fingers. Indeed, as far as I know, he's the exemplar when it comes to playing picado with different combinations of fingers. So, even if his index is still injured, why no picado?

Well there was some, but it was small flourishes- certainly no real scales or picado sections as such. He can use the 2nd and 3rd fingers you're right but not in the same way as 1st and 2nd.

I saw it and loved it. Index or no, he still rocks and puts on a great energy filled show. my mate who isnt into flamenco was gobsmacked by the whole show, gerardo, cepillo, manuel valencia and particularly carmen!

more or less remembered rightly! the rondena at the start was a lot of bits i had never heard and to be honest it blew me away, wouldve been happy to just hear that, gonna ask hm to teach some of that in sanlucar this year!

Any news on when the album is coming out? I asked him some time ago and he said that he was hoping to release it by Christmas 2011...
