"Practice Right" Wrist Ali...

http://www.stringsbymail.com/store/practice-right-wrist-alignment-and-position-correction-aid-7881.html

I'd really like to know peoples' opinions on this thing here (or any other similar tool). For a while now I have noticed some pain and stiffness in my right wrist after playing (sort of like a dull, medium-intensity pain), sometimes after only like 10 minutes or so. Not only that, but my right hand technique is pretty poor in general, and as I begin to really focus on improving it, I find this wrist pain to be discouraging. And worrisome too, since I don't want to end up with chronic wrist problems as I grow older.

I suppose I'm asking if anyone would mind sharing their thoughts on this wrist tool, and whether or not it might be a hindrance for certain flamenco right hand techniques. Or any other advice for dealing with wrist pain issues. Thanks!

In my opinion it's not the answer to flamenco guitarists wrist pain(I believe it's for classical guitarists), especially when there's so much wrist movement included I believe tool like that would only limit the player. Instead I would suggest focusing on the point and source of the pain and if you can, talk about it with experienced player(such as a teacher).

totally agree with tele here , for what i know , ]
it seems that there is just too much hand movment with the flamenco guitar to be stuck in one place ..
moving forward a bit for picado back for rhythmn , rasguerdo with the thumb , or not .change position a bit for tremolo ..etc etc ..

However getting the right position of the right hand is , IMO , super important , i havent got it yet and keep moving around and experimenting . but it does make a big difference to sound ..

Anyway , having a wrist pain is not good , maybe take a break from playing for a few days ,
Have a good think about your own position and what could be staining it .. like how bent is your wrist , what is the angle of your forearm etc ... see if you can work out a good neutral position just by thinking about it for a while ...
Then maybe try it out ...

Thanks tele, El Kiko for the advice. I agree that it's my technique (or lack of). I'm going to hold off on this wrist aid for a while.

I wish there were more formality in learning proper technique. I think someone like me would benefit more from that approach. The few books I've read don't really cover hand position very much (or they just barely touch on the subject as if it weren't all that important). My last teacher would tell me "whatever is most comfortable for you", which always seemed like an incomplete answer.

Right now the most helpful thing I'm doing is to stop every 10 minutes or so and stretch a few times. It helps.

I believe it is complete because everyone has more or less different preferences, probably due to what's going on in the hands anatomy.
If I were you I would start with experimenting moving the wrist in every possible direction bit by bit, for example when playing pulgar, adjusting the arch and angle of the wrist. There are several ways to move the wrist while still keeping the flamenco hand position.

This is mainly to stop beginner students from collapsing the wrist so that it rests on bridge or body of guitar. Not really good for flamenco though as we need to use the wrist in different ways.

I think for flamenco this is complete bullsh*t as depending on your hand shape etc. you might require a position different from what you're forced into by the device. Ever heard of Schumann's finger training device? Trying to improve the indepence of finger movements he invented a device to keep single fingers from touching the keys which resulted in a paralysis.
