Catalonia bans bullfighting

One of Spain's most famous semi-autonomous regions outlaws the sport in a move some will see as a rejection of national tradition.

The Catalonia parliament in Barcelona has voted to ban bullfighting, a move that rejects a hallmark of traditional Spain in a region with its own language and culture.

Madrid will probably introduce it gradually...like with a law to ban smoking next to a bull, then one making it an offence to threaten a bull with a pointed stick..etc.

cheers,

Ron

Or 2 seats in the plaza del toros with "No Bullfighting" signs on them.

I think what we need is a sensible approach to this, with two Matadors and two Bulls explaining their views before the World Court....(oh sorry..US Senate Committee)

cheers,

Ron

The humans will all end up as wimps.... I´m sure.. so sad. We need brutality to some degree to respect life. They could change some rules of bullfighting that the chances to get gored would be more or less 50:50. And if the bull wins he should stay alife.. I know, thats impossible. So.. banning this sport is good IMO.

But I think they could start with gladiator fights again. Human on human.. I guess,..then many people would come home from work, go to bed and wake up in an arena...brought there by the mafia.. Well,... there are always pros and cons.

I do not think Catalonia's move to ban bullfighting was based on any moral or humanitarian motives regarding the sport itself. Catalonia is just trying to define itself in opposition to the rest of Spain in order to further its cultural autonomy. This move will have no great significance in the rest of Spain.

Cheers,

Bill

You know how when things like Dogfighting, Cockfighting, Bare Knuckle boxing etc etc are banned, there are always commentators saying..."Oh..it's no use banning it....it will just move underground.."

Well...I was trying to imagine an "underground" Bullfight!

(on a piece of waste-land, or in a derilect warehouse...or a dingy smoke-filled club in a "bad" area of Madrid... )

cheers,

Ron

btw, i don't know about the other two (probably the same), but cockfighting wasn't banned for cruelty reasons, but because of the gambling, drinking and lower class lawlessness that went along with it....

Ever heard of recortadores? They're pretty much practicing a "non-violent" form of the sport, where it's only about avoiding the bull. These kids also do some CRAZY moves:

Well...the World moves on..

In a couple of years they will be doing the same...but on SKATEBOARDS!

THEN....one day a certain Bull will jump up in the air, do a double-somersault backwards flip and kick the guy under the chin in an elegant bovine Kung Fu move that will leave the crowd breathless!

He will become the Paco of Bulls....

And so on will be the ongoing challenge untill the end of time...

cheers,

Ron

^^ Nice sport.. But what do they do if one of em get caught by the bull? I mean lethal? Is that a foul? Or just yellow card for the bull?
