Waiting to see if a non-admin makes it over here. It's a very nice server. We can basically do anything we want with it, including rebooting, restore from backup etc. Took a while to get my head around everything but it seems to be working ok.

Super fast! A couple of teething troubles ?

The foro logo at the top is still pointing to the temporary site ?
Some images are missing eg. the granada meet-up pics ?

Got yourself a shiny new vps ? Much better than shared hosting

Oh yes indeed, but it took a lot of reading to use all the new bells and whistles of Windows Server 2008 R2, IIS 7 and SQL Server Express 2008 R2. It also took a reimage to wipe my mistakes from the weekend.

Yikes. I did the same a while back, but on linux. Nightmare.. ended up recompiling everything - apache, sendmail, mysql, etc. etc, with no previous experience at that level.

Non computer bods think its all just pressing 'install' a few times.

I feel your pain. Great when it all finally works though. Nice one.

'was wondering where those skipping feet, cartwheels and somersaults prints in the snow would lead to, a vanishing scent of single malt gave it a way...

I have designed multi-server solutions at Microsoft but rarely get to play with the technology. It is certainly very tiring and time-consuming. Not being open source, there was no recompiling thank goodness, just lots of installation, configuration and switches. Then I took a snapshot of the image and should, in theory, be able to rebuild the entire server in 15 minutes.
