RE: Flamenco Guitar online Library (in reply to La Sonanta

I'd enjoy it more if the information were objective and not soaked in sales pitches.

also, the harmony section is incorrect. In order for it to be VI V IV III then the tonic of the piece couldn't be that III...BUT IT IS. thus, it cannot be a III. III implies mediant relationship with a I. if there is no I to make that a III, then it is not III. The whole progression is now incorrect.

Wow, other things I could pick on....

"Being born with the soul of a gypsy as a part of their DNA, these surroundings enable them to learn flamenco guitar from generation to generation by listening, looking, repeating, imitating and playing" --- wow, a gypsy soul! embedded in their DNA!! holy cow!! where can i get one? If I had one, I would automatically be good at flamenco and know everything.

"Flamenco teachers in Spain rarely use books or tabs in their lessons. The students don’t learn guitar pieces. They don’t know chord names and they mostly don’t speak the technical language of music theory. However they can feel the sound of their guitar and strings, and play all functions, just like magic."

JUST LIKE MAGIC!!! seriously?? seriously??? what the hell are you talking about? Scientology? it's called memorization. anyone can do it. Oh, and that's downright offensive to the intellect of basically everyone you lumped into that paragraph. so all flamencos are magical gypsies with magical gypsy souls in their DNA who are magically good at things but don't know anything about what they are playing. Nope these guys dont know the names for things they play on the guitar, they dont need to. they are magical....ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? Lets not give them any credit for working hard, practicing, memorizing and putting actual real effort into things. Lets attribute all of their success and innovation TO BEING MAGICAL GYPSIES!!!

Get real. lose the Bullsh*t.

agreed! 100%

the site looks lovely. the embedded video and music is cool but for some reason it reminded me of disney world!

its not a site for me, i felt patronised..this site felt like it was aimed at an ignoramus......someone who had no knowledge of flamenco and was just interested in buying a guitar and would be dazzled by all the whistles and bells and talk of mythical gypsies elves.

plus signing up to the foro just to get business??
<<said in grizzled wild west prospecters voice>>...... "folks round here, don't take kindly to that kinda thing mr"

yeah, the DNA thing is funny. you should delete this bullsh!t
we had such discussion often here.
its not race or DNA.
its just the enviroment, where they grow up surrrounded with a lot of flamenco , so they learn this stuff from childhood and absorb it !
But if a blond kid would grow up there, he would be the same as a gypsy.

Oh and we also have a lot of gyspies who can't play anything.

but anyway, Rezar Dominguez is a nice and friendly guy. He shared a lot of flamenco stuff before this La Sonanta thing , free on youtube, etc.
these guys (Rezar, PAco Fernandez, etc.) really love what they do i think. you see that there is lot of passion in what they do.

I don't care if business is involved and even mixed with another site to boost the sale. I mean we all have to make a living ! (except if there are obvious hiding information, like in the case of Prof.)

The only thing i don't like about La Sonanta are those Plastic Andalusian Guitars from fake Professor LoL. I think you are the only company selling those crap guitars.

Anyway, other than that, your site is cool. Some very cool guitars in your inventory. Also cool videos on youtube. Keep up the good work. Ole !

We completely understand these feelings, please understand that our only intention is to promote flamenco music as much as we can, but indeed we have to admit sometimes our enthusiasm drives us to write poetic things int he sense of letras that could be wrongly interpreted, we already modified our text to prevent any further misunderstandings, please accept our apologies for any bad feelings, this was not our intention, promoting flamenco guitarists, flamenco guitar luthiers, sharing knowledge about good guitar requirements..anyone dedicated to flamenco, is.

even so, the free guitar lessons, by playing the various guitars they sell, DO allow comparison of the different luthiers' work, sort of. Since they all appear to be recorded under the same conditions.

So that's good. . .

In my Opinion....
Even though they (La Sonanta) are fully aware that Andalusian guitars are misrepresenting Paco de Lucia and the country in which they are made.....(definitely NOT Spain), they still after months list these guitars... sounds like they are more into business than being on "the up and up." A common problem with businesses.... I have spoken with them personally and they do seem like nice guys, but the Andarusion guitar thing makes me reluctant about their business practices.

Geert, Reza and La Sonanta DO INDEED care about how they are perceived.

They will be making changes to the marketing info for these Andalusian brand guitars. It shows that I was wrong about them. They are obviously a group of honest and trustworthy people who indeed passionately conduct the business of flamenco. With this one issue out of the way I can certainly offer my support and congratulations on starting and maintaining such a company.

Cheers,
jason

RE: Flamenco Guitar online Library (in reply to JasonMcGuire

I was just checking out the Andalusian guitar pics at la Sonanta and I realized that the
"Santos Hernandez 1927 "Doble Boca" Flamenco Guitar blanca orange" has lattice braces..... I wasn't aware that Santos Hernandez was using lattice bracing....

I know that we have kicked this dying horse enough, but geeeesh thats total and completely blatant misrepresentation. Using the name of a legendary flamenco guitar innovator without using ANY of his concepts.....

They should change the name to Smallman 2000 Double Boca etc.....

Thanks again for clearing things up Geert and setting the record straight about Andalusian Guitars.....

Clearly an error of labeling the photo. This is ruben's personal "barbero model" he used for la estiba the most advanced piece in flamenco repertory....

That would be equally misleading, as it bears no more resemblance to Greg's design as it does to Santos Hernandez's.

Sorry, I didn't mean to insult Greg Smallman..... I just meant that with that lattice bracing the guitar has NOTHING to do with Santos Hernandez.

If anyone was wondering.... La Sonanta did indeed take down the references to the AG guitars being made in Spain as well as the unauthorized Paco de Lucia endorsement.

I should be getting some new love letters from Professor Diaz soon.....

I have experience as a customer with Geert and La Sonanta. I found them to be aficionados and honest business people.

In one instance I ended up returning the guitar I bought, within a trial period. They refunded me no problems and even offered to pay for my flights to Belgium to try other guitars.
