playing tientos por cante

hi everybody
does anyone work on tientos por cante or has some advices? i gave a try this week with a tientos in style of curro de malena, i played the very basic harmonic progression, tried to be supportive and attentive and it worked fine.
OK accompaniment is a world of it's own, but it's not impossible, especially when you have a good personal feeling with the singer. i was really captivated.

The problems with tientos is the same as with most other palos, the huge amount of local and personal variations. The basic chord progressions often dont fit and one has to have very good ears to hear the chord changes when playing something you dont know.

Yes, that's why we'd like to arrange a whole tientos with cante and baile using Paso a Paso. Los palos del flamenco / Tientos (13) Adrián Galia (instructional DVD's for dancers) - but the guitar part explanation is a bit superficial and very short, the camera work doesn't even allow identifying the chords played, so any advice would be appreciated. He is obviously using a Bb-Chord with F-Note in Bass and A-Chord with G bass, but some other variations are not so evident to me. thanx

Moraito does a fantastic demo with Terremoto in the encuentro vid.

Guys, feel free to join us in the audio thread where we have been loading cante minus guitar and accompanying ourselves. It is very educational I think.

No tientos yet, mostly bulerias, but the idea of following the singer is the same with Tientos, and in fact sometimes the chord structure is similar. Tientos, Tangos, Solea, Bulerias, Bulerias por Solea, they all have a similar song structure. Just the rhythm is different. I think if you can get bulerias pretty good (it is easier I think cuz of the fast rhythm allows quicker learning how to follow and allows more mistakes then slow tempo cantes), then you will easier handle the other cantes.
